Hi Richard
Apologies for butting in Ben!
I can tell you she is a fin keel, currently with Red Ensign in Falmouth.
There is a bilge keel version for sale with boatshed Wales if that's what you are after.

Thanks Bob, yes I need a Bilge Keel - I’m aware of the Boatshed Wales one.. (don’t like the look of the engine it was replaced but with a second hand unit…) Many thanks, Richard

We had a twin keeled Westerly before we went for our Moody Levant - it was great for beaching and wintering but I have to say a fin keel is amazing in terms of sailing capability, so for cruising she's been ideal for all points of sail. Let's face it you often can't choose which direction the wind is coming from...

Hi Ben
I've been sent all the high res photo's of your boat from Red Ensign as I interested in a future purchase. I have to sell my present one.
A couple of questions if you don't mind.
Is there much difference sitting at anchor between a bilge keeler and a fin?
I noticed in the pictures Red Ensign took there was some water in the bilge, did you have any sea water ingress or is any water fresh.
Have you had the keel bolts checked at any time? The one in the picture only looked to have superficial rust on it.
Thanks
Bob Herbert

Hi Ben, yes we had a Westerly Oceanlord fin keel and I sail a friends Dufour 36 and they are cracking sails… however we need a Bilge Keel to afford a mooring in the Solent!! Also I quite enjoy drying out at Shell Bay Herm etc ⛵️. On the subject of 336s… how do you rate the 336 against 346… The 336 has better performance Comfort Ratio and Stability … it really comes down to the Aft Cabin to keep wife happy….

Hi there, Bob,
There is a relatively recent survey that you are more than welcome to look through - Red Ensign have a copy or you can contact me directly for this ewalsworthbell@gmail.com - this might be helpful.
Having anchored both a bilge keeler and a fin, I couldn't say I notice any difference sitting at anchor - it more depends on the weather, swell and aspect of the bay you're anchored in as to how comfortable the motion is. When it's calm and you're in a sheltered bay, it's still as anything. We anchor 90% of the time when we are cruising and we cruise the Scillies mostly.
There is a thread on this site about Moody keel bolts as they are located at the lowest point of the bilges so any water will pool there (or condensation) and I have to be sure to keep them dry, as you would with bilges anyways. I have painted them with red rust-proof paint to keep them dry. Again, do check the survey for details.
All the best, and you are of course welcome to view her - she is laid up at Newham, Truro. We would happily hang on to her for a couple more seasons if she doesn't sell - she is the best boat I've owned.
Ella and Ben.

Thanks for the information, it does look like a nice boat.
